Brethren Woods

Greetings from Brethren Woods,

The seasons are shifting from summer to fall, the leaves are beginning to turn, there’s a nip in the air, and WE MISS YOU out here at Brethren Woods! If you’re missing us too, check out the following two – yes TWO!!! – opportunities to join us here at camp both on Saturday, OCTOBER 10th!

FALL WORKDAY – Come and lend a hand for our final workday of 2020 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.! Please remember to bring a mask to wear when you are inside buildings or interacting with others who are not part of your immediate family or group.

FALL FAMILY NIGHT – Everyone (yes that includes YOU!) is invited to Brethren Woods for our FREE Fall Family Night – an evening with your camp “family” from 4:00-7:30 p.m.! Like almost everything in 2020, this event will look a little different this year. We’ll be limiting our numbers (please sign-up!) as needed to ensure that we can meet appropriate spacing and social distancing requirements, as well as wearing masks when inside buildings or interacting with others who are not part of your immediate family or group.

Here are the details:

4:00-5:30 p.m. – Gathering and Recreation

Bring your own equipment for fishing at the Lake or recreation at the Basketball Court and Mt. Lodge Playfield. Take a hayride around camp (masks and social distancing required)! Hike the trails! Enjoy a self-guided, intergenerational Prayer Path experience. (Please note that we will NOT be cranking ice cream or cooking dutch oven desserts together this year.)

5:30pm – Picnic Dinner

Grab a hot dog or veggie dog, bun, and condiments provided by camp and then gather at your own picnic table in the Mt. Lodge playfield. Instead of a carry-in meal, all guests will need to bring their own tableware, silverware, drinks, and side dishes to enjoy at their own table.

6:30 p.m. – Fun and Faith-Filled Campfire at the Lake

Spread out on the wooden benches or bring a lawn chair as we gather for songs, stories, and scripture! (Masks and social distancing required.)

To sign-up for either of these events, complete the online forms at www.brethrenwoods.org or contact the camp office by phone at 540-269-2741 or email at camp@brethrenwoods.org by SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4TH!  We’re looking forward to seeing you at camp soon!

  Volunteer

There are many opportunities to join what God is doing at Brethren Woods through volunteering. Doug has made a special request for some folks to come out (perhaps as family groups) to do some clean up in and around the Linville Creek Cabin.  Given the current situation with covid-19, you are asked to call ahead to arrange your volunteer task and time.  540-269-2741

Talk to Alice Bair, camp rep, if you have other questions.

Third Thursday of Each Month

Camp’s ministry happens all throughout the year, so we need volunteer help every month to keep up with our grounds, facilities, and programs.  You can join us every month on the third Thursday for our Helping Hands Workday.  There are always indoor and outdoor projects available for all kinds of skills, so there’s sure to be something that’s just right for you!  Just let us know what you’re interested in when you call ahead to sign-up.  This workday is perfect for retired folks, homeschool families, or others with flexible weekdays.  See you there!  Call to let them know you’re coming & the type of work you’d like to do.

The Year-Round Program Calendar is posted on the Brethren Woods bulletin board. More information and registration forms can be found on the Brethren Woods bulletin board here at church or on their webpage:
